NHRA Debuts ‘Speed For All’ Promotional Program

Football season may have come to an end but another exciting season of NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing is ready for kickoff, launching with a 10,000-horsepower blast of nitro-fueled fury at the 59th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals presented by ProtectTheHarvest.com.

Football season may have come to an end but another exciting season of NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing is ready for kickoff, launching with a 10,000-horsepower blast of nitro-fueled fury at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona with the 59th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals presented by ProtectTheHarvest.com.

The annual season opener begins a celebration of speed across the world of NHRA Championship Drag Racing, from the 330-mph Top Fuel dragsters to the weekly amateur competitors at NHRA Member Tracks across the country.

The 2019 Mello Yello season promises to mesmerize fans with more than just the ground-shaking horsepower for which NHRA is known around the globe. A collection of new drivers and rapidly improving teams will spice up the battles in the fiercely-competitive Professional classes, where some of the sport’s most successful drivers will seek to reassert their dominance in the face of the new challengers.

Founded in 1951 to provide a stage for hot rodders of all ages, races, and genders, NHRA boasts a rich history and culture that celebrates the universe of extreme motorsports enthusiasts. It’s the one sport where both amateurs and pros can showcase their talents on the same field of play, where Speed For All captures the true spirit of the grassroots philosophy of NHRA founder Wally Parks.

Racing at the Winternationals kicks off Thursday with Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Sportsman qualifying. The nitro-fueled cars of the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series kick off qualifying with two round, at noon. and 2:30 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 8, and the final two rounds of qualifying on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 12:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Final eliminations are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10.

Kids 12 and under are free in general admission areas with a paid adult. All students can save 50 percent on general admission at the gate with a student ID. To honor the Salute to First Responders, military and first responders can save 20 percent on general admission tickets at the gate.

Virginia Motorsports Park is a multi-purpose racing facility located just minutes away from Richmond in North Dinwiddie, Virginia. The dragstrip hosts a variety of events, including the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Virginia Nationals, two PDRA national events, an NHRA Lucas Oil Series divisional race and a local bracket racing points series. The dirt park will host truck and tractor pulls, monster truck throwdowns, mud bog events and motocross races. Special events held at VMP include the Dinwiddie Music Fest, the Dinwiddie County Fair and mud run and obstacle course races.
