With a multi-purpose facility such as Virginia Motorsports Park, the facility is used in a number of different ways, including our championship quarter-mile drag strip and it’s large asphalt parking layout. The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) brings their national event tour, the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, back to VMP for the 3rd Annual Virginia NHRA Nationals on May 29-31st. This is the series only stop in the state of Virginia and new for 2020 is the addition of Friday night qualifying, under the lights for the first time in Virginia Nationals history. Top Fuel & Funny Car return with the Virginia NHRA Nationals in May.

Events like the Shakedown Nationals, the East Coast Chevy Show, Night of Fire, Hollyrock Customs Summer Diesel Showdown II, Old Dominion Duels, Restoration Reunion, NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Fall ET Challenge and Ford vs. Mopar Challenge highlight a jam-packed schedule featuring over one hundred twenty-five events here at the Virginia based facility. We also play host to the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) for two dates, the Mid-Atlantic Showdown in May and the Brian Olson Memorial World Finals in October. The Xtreme Dragbike Association (XDA) also hosts two of their championship points events with us at Virginia with the MTC Engineering Summer Nationals on May 15-17th along with the second-annual Bike Bash on August 21-23rd. Loose Rocker Promotions brings forth two big money bracket races with the St. Patrick’s Classic in March and the Colonial Classic in August. We are also proud to host the VP Racing Fuels ET Bracket Series in which there are twelve events where racers from Super Pro to Junior Dragsters will be showcasing their talents in hopes of capturing a series championship at the end of the season and racing on the returning championship team at the MAC Team Finals. On a select number of events, the scoreboards will be turned off and everything will be secretive other than the win light on the top of the board. We start our no-time/grudge racing schedule off with the Payso Productions Inaugural March N/T Madness on March 27-28th along with two events from Brown’s Racing on the Saturday heading into the Memorial Day and Labor Day holiday weekends. JB’s No Clock Nationals III: Grudge N’ Treat will close out our no time season with a one of a kind event on Halloween Saturday.

While the drag racing portion of the facility will be wide open, the VMP Dirtplex is seeing a number of exciting events in 2020 along with some infrastructure improvements. At the end of 2019, the construction was completed doubling the seating capacity of the Dirtplex to now right over 3,000 seats. Moving into 2020, the facility is proud to announce a wider racing surface along with a new press box and more coming to the fold in the coming months in preparation for the opening event of the Dirtplex season. The Sprint Cross Country Series (SXCS) returns as the season opener on April 11-12th with an endurocross style event through the pathways, creating a very unique and challenging course. Rugged Maniac returns with the 5K obstacle course challenge on May 2nd while the MX track will see its first event of the season on May 9-10th when the Mid-Atlantic Motocross Association rolls into town for it’s first of two stops in 2020. On June 13th, we will debut the Inaugural Summer Slam event which will feature multiple Mud Bog classes along with a number of fun games and exciting action. Two weeks later, the popular Southern Mud Outlaws series will take center stage in the Dirtplex creating a two-for-one weekend with the Hollyrock Customs Summer Diesel Showdown II. Mega Trucks, side-by-sides and more will take to the expanded Dirtplex and house some great racing action to close out an exciting day using two of our exciting tracks. The Monster Truck Throwdown series returns to VMP for three shows in 2020, expanding from a two-day show in past seasons. After a sell-out crowd in 2019, we highly expect the monster trucks to take center stage once again on July 24-26th. The second new event rolls into town on August 8th with the Inaugural Dirtplex Nationals highlighting more Mud Bog classes, fun and games and a few details that are to be determined, but coming soon! Mid-Atlantic Motocross Association returns on August 29-30th for their final stop on the season while Rugged Maniac returns on October 10th for yet another 5K obstacle challenge. The Sprint Cross Country Series returns for the final event of the season, bookending the Dirtplex schedule on October 17-18th.
