Inclement Weather Claims Race 1 in VP Racing Fuels ET Bracket Series

Heading into Saturday morning, the weather forecast would clean up one minute, worsen one minute, look great the next and look horrible the next. It was anybody’s guess as to which meteorologist would end up correct with their plan in the day as everyone was scattered – just like the potential rain. After left over morning dew/sprinkles finally left the area, the Virginia Motorsports Park track crew finalized the racing surface and began calling cars to the lanes for the single time trial session and rapid fire into eliminations while the window was open.

The sun began to shine, cars were blasting down the racing surface and all was well in the world until clouds began to form in the sky and the bright sun turned into dark clouds as they passed over top of Virginia Motorsports Park as the second round of eliminations was completed. As the third round kicked off, so did the raindrops on the top end of the track. Officials halted the program and sent all cars back to their trailers to hopefully wait out the passing shower. While the racing surface stayed relatively dry, the hard rain continued on the top end of the racetrack, creating nearly two different situations.

While the track crew continued to battle, it just was not enough as the rains continued past 5:30pm and began to push the timeline of completion further and further away from being possible. Around 6:00pm, race officials decided to pull the plug and call the event at that point, splitting the purse with the remaining entries who were heading into the third round of eliminations. Championship points totals were tallied and finalized after the second round of eliminations and can be found on the RaceVMP.com website under the ‘race central’ tab. As we look forward on the calendar, we have three days of action scheduled for June 26-28 weekend here at Virginia Motorsports Park. We kick off our first Friday night of the year with O’Reilly Auto Parts Street Wars featuring the L&W Racing Transmissions Street ET category with open Test & Tune all night long. Gates open at 5pm and track goes hot at 6pm, closing at 11pm sharp.

Next Saturday, we go back at it with our VP Racing Fuels ET Bracket Series and the second scheduled event of the year along with our “Top 10” list, better known as Most Wanted. We will have $2,500 to Win in Hoosier Racing Tire Super Pro, $1,500 to Win in Pro ET, $300 to Win in Pro Bike and $300 to Win in Battery Barn of Virginia Jr. Dragsters! We will also have an overnight gate between Friday night’s program and Saturday’s ET series for ease of access for as many racers as possible and not have any long lines on Saturday morning for quick ingress and everyone being ready to roll for the start of Saturday’s program! Our plan is to have two time trial sessions starting at 9:30am with Pro ET, Super Pro, Pro Bike and Jr. Dragsters as the run order and go directly into eliminations following the time trial session.

On Sunday, we are excited to have the US Drift crew back on the grounds for a day of sliding sideways, tire smoke and more.

Sadly, we are still not able to have spectators and the concession stand must remain closed. We are working hard to make progress on both of these instances but for now, we have to follow guidelines so we can open to contestants and to crew members. We want to have fans here and be able to serve you all as best as we can but we are also trying to follow the rules where we can continue opening and providing a playground for horsepower and smiles all around. We hope to see you all at the races this upcoming week!
