It’s finally official, the 2021 motorsports season at Virginia Motorsports Park is underway after three great days of racing to start the season. Racers from all across the area and neighboring states flocked to Virginia Motorsports Park to get much needed track time to start the year off after a long offseason of changing combinations and tweaking the screws to get as much horsepower as possible.
Friday night was the debut of our Take It Off The Streets program that is solely designed to give the street style cars as many runs as possible and give you all as much track time as things go. Over 100 racers came out and enjoyed a great night of street style racing under the lights at VMP. We plan to continue this program that is specifically designed for street cars through the season to let the daily driver style vehicle make as many runs as possible in an evening to get your speed rush! Our next Take It Off The Streets night will be on Friday, April 2nd with the season-opening L&W Racing Transmissions Street ET class for those who want to join in on a bracket race with their street ride!
Saturday and Sunday were greeted with great weather conditions, little chilly and windy at times, but great for racing! In a new change for the 2021 season, we separated our Test & Tunes into categories by slick tires, radial tires, motorcycles, junior dragsters and street cars. This kept racers from sitting in the staging lanes for a long period of time and made for a better experience of getting to watch some great cars go down the strip, all while having fun yourself! Saturday was a larger crowd with eight full lanes of slick tire testing along with radial, motorcycles, four full lanes of street and nearly twenty junior dragsters! Sunday was more of the same with a handful less of cars but still a great crowd on a March afternoon!
We want to thank everyone who came out to support the season opening weekend at Virginia Motorsports Park. As we turn to the event calendar, we’re looking at the season openers for the VP Racing Fuels ET Bracket Series upcoming on March 20-21 weekend. If inclement weather forces us to not be able to race, we will move this event to the following weekend on March 27-28 with the Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings event being rescheduled for August, the weekend was then available for use if needed. Stay tuned to all of our social media outlets and RaceVMP.com for all the latest up to date information regarding events and what’s coming soon to Virginia’s all concrete quarter-mile dragstrip!
