Jones, Taylor, A. Jenkins, Holmes, Denny and C. Jenkins at FuelTech Old Dominion Duels

786 total entries across two days of racing powered the FuelTech Old Dominion Duels into the forefront of the bracket racing scene over Labor Day weekend at Virginia Motorsports Park.

Friday night’s Super64 shootouts were cut short due to an oil down right at curfew as we were at 8 in Super Pro and 5 in Footbrake, the total purse remaining was split between these racers that were still in competition.

Saturday began with a time trial session and straight into eliminations we went with a total of 408 entries receiving a time in round number one. 250 entries in Super Pro brought a deep field to take down to a final, in which we had to complete on Sunday morning due to curfew. Jeffrey Jones in his ’83 Omni outlasted the huge crowd to grab the first $10,000 race win of the weekend over a red-lighting Jonathan Edwards in his ’85 S10. Tyler Ryan was the lone semi-finalist while David Anspach, Gary Humphreys and Ken Clark bowed out at the quarterfinals. AJ Jenkins wheeled his Mechanicsville, Maryland based Ford Mustang to the winner’s circle in Pro ET over Waynesboro’s Eric Day, outlasting over 120 other entries going off the bottom bulb. Dillon Winkler was the lone semi-finalist while John Lattimore, Travis Ritchie and Dylan Witherow were the quarter finalists for the evening. Right at forty of the brightest young stars in the sport gathered to battle it out both days at the Duels, after day one, it was Nokesville, Virginia based Jordan Denny taking the win over North Carolina’s Justin Kerby in the finals. Kerby had the reaction time advantage, but Denny made a closer run to his dial-in, grabbing the narrow victory in a tight final round. Elizabeth Finamore and Carter Jackson were the semi-finalists while CJ Jenkins, Brandon Jenkins and Arana Bachmeier called it a night in the quarters.

Sunday brought another huge line up of 378 entries piling into all eight staging lanes at Virginia Motorsports Park. Gabe Taylor outlasted the near 250 entries again in Super Pro, claiming a $10,000 pay day over Jeff Verdi. Taylor was .014 total in the finals to lock out Verdi in the GTO. Verdi almost pulled off the unthinkable by parking both entries in the final but had to run himself in the semi-finals due to Taylor earning the bye run with an .010 reaction time. Kenny Young and Tyler Ruff were the quarterfinalists on the evening. Bealeton, Virginia’s own Darrell Holmes laid claim to the Pro ET win on Sunday evening, taking down Sandston’s Chris Moren in a tightly contested final round that led to a .001 breakout by Moren. Dillon Winkler was the lone semi-finalist for two nights in a row while Trey Eggleston and Saturday winner, AJ Jenkins bowed out at the round of five. CJ Jenkins claimed back to his winning ways on Sunday evening, taking down Hannah Sheppard with a stellar .024 reaction time, 7.902 dead-on run to be .026 total against Sheppard’s .047 reaction time, dead on 8.900 lap. Brandon Wilker and Carter Jackson were the semi-finalists while Elizabeth Finamore, Chloe Geryes, Arana Bachmeier and Brooke Harper were the quarter finalists.
