Lukhard and Futrell Start 2021 Season with Gamblers Race Victories

After moving around the schedule a touch to accommodate weather conditions, we had a Test & Tune session on Sunday, March 21 with an impromptu gamblers race for Super Pro/Pro competitors as well as our Jr. Dragster category.

As first round came to a close, we had 82 competitors jump into the gamblers race for Super Pro/Pro while 27 future stars of drag racing joined in on the junior dragster side of the program. The rounds began to wind down and the competition was as tough as ever, even being the first time we’ve seen eliminations in the 2021 season. Brianna Lukhard wheeled her ’17 S&W dragster all the way to the winner’s circle for her first win in big car competition defeating a red-lighting Josh Edwards in the finals. Lukhard carried the bye run from fourth round to the finals where she laid down a .003 package to earn that bid through the remainder of the day. Buddy Perkinson and Milton Thomas were the semi-finalists while Chris Barrow, Andy Lloyd, Charles Wright and Pat Warren were the quarter-finalists for the evening. Todd Futrell outpowered and out muscled the remainder of the Jr. Dragster field in the season-opening gamblers race. Futrell was solid all day long including in the finals where he took a narrow reaction time advantage as both he and Kate Hall ran one above their dial-ins and Futrell took the victory by a .008 margin of victory. Brandon Galderise, Jr. and Kahlia Lewis were the semi-finalists while Louis Crockett, Mallory Logan and LeVar Lewis, Jr. rounded out the quarter-final slots.
