McGowan, Dudley, Marable and Fowler Claim Sunday Victories at VP Fuels ET Bracket Series

Sunday’s edition of the VP Racing Fuels Bracket Series saw yet another stellar car count as we continue to pack the staging lanes full in all of our championship categories. Right at 250 racers stuck around for Sunday’s points event which saw a ton of tight competition through the rounds and on into the early evening hours until champions were crowned at yet another event.

Hoosier Racing Tire continues to be impressive with over 100 entries once again, paying the $3,000 to Win purse structure with over 80 entries. Buddy McGowan in his Camaro running in the 4.80 range clicked past all comers to park in the winner’s circle at the end of the evening, defeated a red-lighting Wyatt Colbert in the final round. McGowan was definitely up on the wheel and ready as he laid down a .011 package in the final while Colbert left the starting line .005 of a second too soon, turning on the red light. Ernie Lumpkin and Jonathan Edwards were the semi-finalists while Larry Miller, Allison Lloyd and Devin Dudley were the quarter-finalists.

Pro ET narrowly missed hitting the mark for the extra payout but still had a solid crowd in the lanes and some of the fiercest competition of the afternoon. Devin Dudley lived up to his nickname of “Deadly” as he clicked on win light after win light in both Pro ET and Super Pro through the afternoon. Dudley faced off with Gerald Driver, Jr. in the final round and Driver clicked on the red bulb as he left the starting line a touch too soon. Cody Kirk was the lone semi-finalist of the night while Alan Thatcher and Josh Edwards bowed out in the quarter-final round.

Pro Bike saw Saturday’s winner trying to double up on the weekend with the 2020 track champion in the other lane, Craig Marable. Marable lined up with Derek Burkhead, Jr., Saturday evening’s winner, in hopes of a double up. But all those hopes were dashed as soon as the red light came on for Burkhead who was just a little too anxious as Marable took the final round victory by defeat. Doug Rutherford and Roy Johnson were semi-finalists while Luke Boykin, III, Ben Burkhead and Delton Dove were the quarter-finalists.

Battery Barn Jr. Dragsters rounded out our Sunday evening with the future stars of drag racing running for the second NHRA JDRL Wally of the weekend. Samantha Fowler grabbed her first win and her first Wally on Sunday evening with a win over Christopher Suppers. Jordan Denny was the lone semi-finalist while Zach Shirkey, Kahlia Lewis and Brooks McMath round out the quarter-final round.

Our stars and cars of the VP Racing Fuels ET Bracket Series will be taking some time off from points competition but you’ll be seeing them still on track with upcoming events like Triple Threat Bracket Series (June 10-13) and Chesterfield Auto Parts East Coast Chevy Show (June 18-20) before coming back to continue the battle for a championship on July 10-11th for the next edition of the VP Racing Fuels ET Bracket Series.
