Clark and Harris Close Season with eBayMotors Turkey Trot Victories

Ken Clark and Luke Harris closed out their 2021 seasons with big wins at the season finale for the dragstrip on the calendar year at Virginia Motorsports Park, the annual eBayMotors Turkey Trots event over Thanksgiving weekend.

Officials made the decision to swap to two $10,000 to Win events with the inclement weather on forecast for Friday morning and the cold temperatures across the weekend. With overnight rains causing some havoc and delaying a start time until noon on Friday afternoon, racers and race officials moved through the event as quick as possible and completed race one under the lights around the 43-degree mark with Ken Clark’s wheelstanding S10 taking the win over Blake Denton’s dragster. Denton clicked on the red bulb by .007 in the final round, handing the win over to Clark who was also doubled until the semi-final round where he had to run himself and eliminate one entry, also being the lone semi-finalist in race one for the weekend.

Fast forward to Saturday morning, starting off with temperatures in the 20s overnight also proved to be a challenge with a delayed start for ambient temperatures and the sun to raise to a safe level for all competitors. Following a new entry time trial, straight to eliminations went some of the toughest sportsman bracket racers in the area. Luke “Lil’ Bootie” Harris made it 2-for-2 for the door cars with his first win over Shaun Smithdeal. Smithdeal had a reaction time advantage but ran into car trouble and had to pull over before the 330-foot mark, Harris lifted early and coasted to his first win in the family’s ’68 Chevelle running in the 5.40-range. Friday’s winner, Ken Clark and Steve Witherow were the semi-finalists for the final drag race on the 2021 calendar at Virginia Motorsports Park.
