Hoff and Sexton Grab Victories at Loose Rocker’s Colonial Classic

Mother Nature tried her best to derail another weekend of drag racing here in Virginia but the team at Virginia Motorsports Park was able to push through enough to get Saturday’s race to a split and run Sunday’s event to completion after hard rains on Thursday and the early morning hours of Friday which kept us from getting on track until Saturday morning.

Saturday’s event was moving well on its way until a pop-up shower rolled in and dumped an immense amount of rain over the area which ended our night right as Footbrake was nearing completion in their second round. Event purses were split amongst all remaining and all eyes turned towards Sunday’s $10,000 to Win with a beautiful forecast, finally, in sights.

Sunday’s Super Pro Winner – Mike Hoff from Hanover, PA

After nine competitive rounds of racing, it was Pennsylvania vs. North Carolina in the final round as Mike Hoff piloted his ’11 Racetech to a .011 package run, featuring a .002 reaction time to defeat North Carolina’s Gabe Taylor who was dead-on with a 1 but just a little tardy on the let-go. Hoff grabbed the famed eagle trophy seen at most Loose Rocker events along with the big check held high in the winner’s circle after a hard-fought day in his dragster. Kenny Young was the lone semi-finalist while Kelly Fenton-Taylor and Bootie Harris bowed out in the quarter-finals, Harris being the last standing door car. Sunday’s Footbrake Winner – Nathan Sexton from Radford, VA

A familiar face found his way back to the winner’s circle at Virginia Motorsports Park for the second time this season – both times with big money up for grabs. Nathan Sexton rolled his 8-second 2001 model Mustang from Radford, VA up against Rick Bowman’s ’56 Ford to face off for all the marbles. Bowman turned it red by .008 and handed the automatic victory to none other than the young gun from Radford, who won Sunday’s edition of the Old Dominion Duels earlier this summer. Daniel Duff and Jonathan Martin, two Virginia Motorsports Park regulars, found their way to the semi-finals while Roger Bridges, Scott Halsey and Ben Jones bowed out in the quarter-finals. Best Appearing Award: Duane Allen’s 2017 American Dragster

Best Engineered Award: Luke Harris’ 2000 Chevrolet S-10

Rounding out the weekend in the winner’s circle was Duane Allen and Wesley Washington with the Best Appearing Award for Duane’s immaculate ’17 American dragster along with Luke “Lil’ Bootie” Harris grabbing the Best Engineered Award with his S-10 pickup truck.
