Triple Threat Bracket Series Faces Adversity and Crowns Twin 20K Winners

After multiple days of rain and a challenging forecast, race officials changed the original three day format to a Twin 20K setup as the projected forecast knocked out the opportunity to race on Thursday and Friday. Sadly, the forecasts were correct and massive rainfall came into the Dinwiddie, Virginia area on Thursday night and Friday night which resulted in a large amount of preparation to be ready to send race cars safely. The Virginia Motorsports Park staff worked nearly around the clock to get things prepared and put cars on the racetrack at 5pm on Saturday afternoon with the start of FuelTech Saturday with $20,000 on the line. Officials fought through multiple breakages to complete the time trial, first round, re-entry and second round before stopping due to curfew on Saturday evening. Round 3 started off Sunday morning until the finals were run on an extended version of the FuelTech 20K. O’Reilly Auto Parts Sunday 20K started right after the final round was completed and off ran the second event, powering through at a thundering rate of pace, the second and final 20K event of the weekend was completed right at 9:00pm.

Virginia Motorsports Park would like to thank all of the racers, crew members, staff, media and the marketing partners from FuelTech, O’Reilly Auto Parts, House of Payne Performance, FTI Performance, Hoosier Racing Tire, DragRaceSolutions/Collector Tethers and JEG’S Performance for their support of our first of three Triple Threat Bracket Series events on the 2021 schedule.

FuelTech Saturday started the weekend off with Dink Holmes driving the Bounty Hunter ’68 Camaro to the first winner’s circle of the weekend and the new big money bracket series at Virginia. Holmes defeated Footbrake48 winner, Devin Dudley, in the finals as Dudley clicked it .008 on the red side and handed the automatic victory to the Richmond, VA based Camaro. Gary Ingold was the lone semi-finalist while Caraline McCarty and Andre Nunez bowed out in the quarter-finals. Devin Dudley laid claim to the Footbrake48 shootout over Rodney Lunsford’s ’95 Mustang. Kevin Pollard was the lone semi-finalist while Seth Phillips and Darrell Holmes rounded out the quarter-finals. For round-by-round results, click HERE for Super Pro and click HERE for Footbrake48.
